I saw this tutorial on Shelley Westerman’s blog, Crazy Wonderful. I made these coasters like Shelley’s with my little sister from Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. Here are Shelley’s.
To make them, you simply take some tiles which you can buy at Lowe’s or Home Depot for anywhere between 14 cents and a dollar.
Then, paint it with chalkboard paint (probably a good idea to rough it up first, as I didn’t and one of my peeled a little).
Glue felt on the back. Felt is about 35 cents for a small sheet which will handle up to six tiles!
Let it cure overnight. Write on it! You’re done.
If you decide to make them, have fun! Super easy! And, a great way to have inexpensive coasters!
Check out the full tutorial on Shelley’s blog.
I wanted to be sure to compliment Overstock.com. It’s already the first place I go if I’m going to buy retail. I bought the bench (among other things) in my master from them two months ago. Saw it at a lower price this past week. Called and they actually gave me a $45 credit, even though I was way beyond their 10 day price match policy! That’s good customer service. And, well, it never hurts to ask!

Another great idea from the Crafty Genious! You are truly talented!! Those are going to make great gifts!

What a great easy project. Good tip about Overstock too. I'll have to remember that.
What a great project and super quick and easy.
I love this coaster idea! I have been wanting to do something with chalkboard paint for a while, but haven't wanted to commit a wall of our home or anything like that. This seems like a perfect way to dip a toe in.
Also, on Overstock, it's really important to CALL them, not use the online text thing. Vastly different service between the two. Text = horrible service. Phone = great service.
What a GREAT idea. They are perfect for as gifts

LOVE Overstock (except when buying shoes/clothing), and LOVE this idea! This would make such an affordable and fun gift. You can also write or draw on them to get that chalkboard look and then seal what you've made so the drinks don't "ruin" it. More permanent, but with the same look. Thanks for sharing!
Those are AWESOME! What a fun and easy craft project + they'd make a great gift
those are awesome!!!! i love this idea for a teacher gift and i was looking for an idea for sawyer’s teacher. hooray!!! thank you!!!
