If you Follow Via Google Friend Connect

Do you follow my blog via this thingy and read it on a Google reader?

If so, then, please read more!   Because you need to take some action if you still want to follow this blog.

If you have not heard, Google is retiring Google Friend Connect (GFC) from non-Blogger hosted blogs by March.  So, pretty sure that is why the GFC thingy on my right sidebar has been out of commission.  Not only can you not become a new follower that way anymore, but if you already follow that way, you MUST find a new way to follow or you will soon no longer get updates.

Non Blogger blogs (like mine, I use WordPress) that have followers through GFC will lose their Google Friend Connect followers unless their followers chose other means to follow; email subscriptions, feeds, etc.

YUCK.  Really, Google?!

So…  this is a quick note to say that if that is how you follow, please choose another way to follow if you want to keep following.

I recommend that you follow via Facebook, email or any of the other readers.  Ways to subscribe are on my right sidebar.

So, what are your thoughts about Google lately?

If you have any insight into this, I’d love to hear from you!   See reader’s questions below.

I also hear that Picnik is closing in April.  People are pretty mad at Google for that as well.  Is Picasa (also free) kind of the same thing?  I don’t use either.  I use Photoshop, so enlighten me on this!

  1. I follow you on FB, but it is still crummy because I love that I can have all of my blog updates in 1 place with my google reader! I like just about everything that google come up with…but this is super dumb!

  2. I am so disappointed with google lately.

I feel like they are trying to take over the world! They are using every possible avenue they can to make people use Google+…. Including closing picnik.com. They claim that if you get a google+ account you will be able to continue editing photos thru it. But it’s not the same at all! I use picnik.com to edit all of my photos for my blog. Now I’m not sure what to do.

And now GFC will be gone as well. Ugh. I could go on all day… Sore subject for me right now! Haha.

  3. Where have I been?? How come I didn’t know about this? Thank you so much for sharing this information! I am also a wordpress blogger but I will certainly use this opportunity to remind my readers about GFC.
    Have a great weekend!

  4. i follow via bloglovin and think it’s the best and easiest way!

  5. This sucks the big one! I like all my reading in my feed, but I’m all over following you via FB!

  6. I’m now an email subscriber!

  7. Kristy, All the blogs I read, I follow by email. I find that works best for me. Since I am at my email several times a day it is so handy to read several posts while I am there. I like having everything in one place. I have always found it a bother to go to google reader. Just me. I was already getting you through email. Sure hope everyone gets switched over.
    Have a great weekend.

  8. I just added your blog address straight onto the Subscribe link on my Google Reader, and I dont have a Google Friends thingy, so wont that be ok? Google Reader is where I get all my blog posts, from every source.
but its NOT thru google friends…

    • Umm… That I’m not certain about. I’d google Google Reader and non google blogs to make sure you don’t suddenly lose any blogs that are not Google based. I’d love to hear what you find out!

    • I’m not not sure either. I hope not though. Maybe time to figure out how to use bloglovin’

  9. Hmmm, wtf is Google up to these days? I also use Picnik religiously for editing on my computer. I’ve even been secretly wishing they would develop an app for ios but I guess that’s not going to happen now. I have a blogger blog and follow the blogs I read via google reader. I actually don’t really like using the GFC thingy, but I do like it when other people use it on my blog ;) haha. Maybe the bloglovin’ follower will become more popular now (I have only tried it for a hot sec). Good luck!

  10. Nooooooo! I loved having all my blogs in one place to read. This really stinks.

    • Yep. Thanks. And, personally, I just subscribe to rss feeds and have them come to my email. So, this doesn’t affect me much since I don’t use a reader. But for anyone who uses GFC and the associated reader, all non-Blogger blogs will drop off of their list.

  11. Thanks for the heads-up. I’ve added you to Google Reader and it looks like I’ll have to do the same with the other blogs I read!
