A Craigslist Find, Your Thoughts on Entry

Here are two of my most recent finds, but believe me, there are more… which I’ll show you in other posts, later.   But, today, let’s look at a chair that I found for our entry!   And, a railroad crossing sign (the real deal with bullet holes and everything).

I’m creating a little vignette, but obviously, it’s just kind of thrown together right now.  I’m still formulating what I want to do in the space.  Here is option #1.

New Stuff-120

See the one find?  The pretty great tufted, chartreuse green chair?  It’s from the 60s, and is in almost perfect condition.

New Stuff-126

Here is what I’m thinking at the moment – painting the wood on the chair white, hanging the circular mirror that I found at Homegoods, maybe painting the end table, and changing out the lamp shade.  I may even painting the lamp base gold.

And, here is option #2 with a more quirky table that we had on hand and the second find (from the Austin Antique Mall), the railroad sign.

From above.

Entry-041

Since this involves a second wall, here it is from further back.

For this option, we can leave the chair as-is or paint the wood gold.  Change out the lamp shade?  Paint anything else?

Which do you prefer?  Thoughts?  I’d love to hear what you all think!

  1. I am really digging that little white table! I would change the lampshade, though. Great find with that chair, it is amazing :)

  2. That is a great chair! I prefer the round table; the scale and shape seem to work better. I also think that a nice patterned lamp shde would be a great addition. Can’t wait to see what you do.

  3. I LOVE the way it is now. Don’t change anything! What a great way to fill in a space.

  4. Amazing finds! I definitely prefer the round table… but I think the black shade looks a little heavy with the white table. Love the railway sign!

  5. Hi Kristy,

I love option #1. The chair is big enough for a larger end table. The white one kind of gets lost. Great finds! Have a great weekend.

  6. I LOVE the chartreuse color and the chair looks in perfect shape. I like vignette 1 best, with painting the chair white.

  7. Oh, I love that green chair! What an amazing find! I really like your idea of painting the wood white, it will look fresh and contrast nicely with the vintage chair. I prefer the white side table next to the chair because the scale looks better compared to the other one. As for the table lamp, replacing the shade will be a good idea because the black feels a little heavy. A patterned, white or colored shade would work well.

Looking forward to see pictures of your home!

By the way, I am hosting a fun and fabulous giveaway. So, come by and enter, if you like!

  8. I really like the second version, it has more personality!

  9. I really like it with the square end table, it seems a better scale for the chair!

  10. LOVE LOVE LOVE that green! Keep it that color! Don’t change a thing!

  11. I like the white table with the chair. I would paint the wood on the chair white. I would change out the lampshade and change the color of the lamp, but a color, not gold.. maybe, yellow. And, the railroad sign behind that. That would look so awesome! I’m excited about seeing what you are going to do.

  12. I wasn’t going to comment. In fact, I read this on Facebook, now I’m on email. This area just looks crowded to me. Too many textures, with the buttons, and the gingerbread table and the lamp. The scale of your entry is magnificent. I would like to see a narrow console table with one large thing above it on the wall. Plus one thing on the table. An orchid, or a statue. You could consider a tailored skirt on console table. No one is going to sit there, so make it look clean and sleek. Too bad that door is there. Maybe some day you could stencil or wallpaper the whole foyer and make the door disappear. Remember, less is more. How about a ficus or palm tree? Ann

  13. Well, I think you found a winner with the chair! I like #1 the best and I suggest:
    ~ paint the chair white
~ add a funky, colorful lampshade (a bright fabric would be awesome to cover the existing shade or an inexpensive one
~ paint the lamp base a color that’s in the lampshade
~ love the railroad sign! Definitely place it on a wall in the foyer

    Just my 2c ~ :-)

  14. I like the first grouping the best. The scale of the square table looks better than the round. I would paint the chair a creamy white, I think the lamp is gorgous just like it is, I would not paint, but maybe a diff lamp shade. I would tie it all together with a pillow or throw on the chair.

  15. Love the chair. I like the white table, it isn’t so heavy visually like the other one. Gold on the frame of the chair will really make the chair pop. The rr sign is awesome!

  16. Oh my gosh, I lOVE your floor! :-) I also love the chartreuse chair, you struck gold on that one. I prefer the first table in your entry. I agree with the person that posted that the white table gets a little lost (although it is a tres cute table!!!). Also agree to switch out the lamp shade. Enjoyed thinking about this. Maybe I need to start planning out my entry! ;-) Hugs, Jen

  17. Option #1 but paint the end table and change out the lamp shade it’s too heavy. Maybe something with a pattern on it to give it some color.

  18. I scrolled past the other comments so I wouldn’t be swayed – I like the second option, the first seems a little heavy and crowded. I’d add an ornate framed print or small canvas abstract placed low between the chair and lamp. The black in the shade looks nice w/ that awesome rr sign, but maybe a new shade in bold floral with black background or bold b & w geometric?? Amazing finds, Kristy, can’t wait to see what you come up with!

  19. I love it the way it is, but I think gold would be fabulous!

Thank you so much for visiting & commenting on my blog!

Am anxiously awaiting Tori’s craft show and that man!

    Have a great night!

  20. That chair rocks! I like option one. Great vignette.

  21. I love option 2! That quirky side table looks great next to the chair, and I don’t have a problem with the black lampshade. Love your RR sign, too!

  22. I like the 1st option (square end table, round mirror). the weight of the chair and the side table are better balanced <if that makes any sense :0)

  23. Christy, I would hang the mirror; get a shorter lamp-either mirrored or silvered with a black shade and hang the RR piece! JR Nuerge

  24. I prefer option #2! Paint the chair legs white, the lamp base gold? Add ribbon trim to the black lampshade & find a pretty throw pillow???

  25. LOVE the chair! Just as it is, it is absolutely perfect! The whole space looks fab!

  26. I like the second table. I would leave the wood on the chair for now, I think it adds a nice warmth against the white table. I would try and get a shorter lamp with a nice drum style linen shade. And hang the mirror and RR sign!
